The Seven Days of Creation
(parody of "The 12 Days of Christmas" by unknown)
New lyrics by Mike Fischer
The Story: I threw this together to help a lady at church teach creation to her junior-church class of young kids. I never got to teach the hand signs (at the bottom of the page) because I had to play the guitar while I sang, but it's meant to have the hand gestures go along with the song. I confess, this also helps me remember what got created when.
On the first day of creation, the Lord said, "Let there be
The light so that people could see."
On the second day of creation, the Lord said, "Let there be
Heaven up above,
And the light so that people could see."
On the third day of creation, the Lord said, "Let there be
Seas and plants,
Heaven up above,
And the light so that people could see."
On the fourth day of creation, the Lord said, "Let there be
Sun and moon and stars,
Seas and plants,
Heaven up above,
And the light so that people could see."
On the fifth day of creation, the Lord said, "Let there be
Birds and swimming things,
Sun and moon and stars, seas and plants, Heaven up above,
And the light so that people could see."
On the sixth day of creation, the Lord said, "Let there be
Animals and people,
Birds and swimming things,
Sun and moon and stars, seas and plants, Heaven up above,
And the light so that people could see."
On the seventh day of creation, the Lord said, "Let there be
One day of rest,
Animals and people,
Birds and swimming things,
Sun and moon and stars, seas and plants, Heaven up above,
And the light so that people could see."
Hand signs:
- Light: hands in front of you at eye level; bring them down in curves to make a circle while wiggling all fingers, suggesting a light source
- Heaven: hands straight up over your head, bring them down with straight arms in an arc
- Seas: hands out at your sides; weave them in toward each other like waves
- Plants: when your hands almost meet, bring them straight up over your head like a tree trunk (ready for the Heaven sign)
- Sun, moon, stars: put your bunched fingers in front of you and burst them out - God is placing lights in the sky
- Birds: flap your arms twice like a bird
- Swimming things: right hand flat, thumb up; slide it toward you while weaving it, like a swimming fish
- Animals: two fingers from each hand, hands together, making a four-footed animal; "hop it" twice
- People: point to yourself
- Day of rest: lay your head on your two hands, palms together, as if resting
